Current Info: After working in camping from 1987-2003, I made a career change. I moved from YMCA resident camping to working as a youth and volunteer director at a YMCA branch. In 2005, I decided to leave the YMCA and head west to the beautiful mountains of Colorado, where I now live and work as a Special Education teacher.
I spent my first two years in the United States at Camp Montvale under the directorship of Richard Armstrong and loved every minute!

senior, getting ready to graduate and attend the University of Tennessee
at Knoxville. I will be working at YMCA Camp Lakewood this summer, with
Montvale's old director Libby. When Phil Scott taught Music
for after dinner activities, we would always sit on the porch as the day
came to an end. It was the most peaceful moment of my day, and in that
moment everything was always right in the world. The dining hall porch
at sunset will always be my favorite place.

with my husband of 10+ years (Peter) and a son (Nate) that is 7. I was
in the Air Force from '89-93 (Desert Storm vet)and graduated from ETSU
in '93 as well. Worked/lived in Atlanta post schooling at a PR agency.
Met my husband on a blind date and we eloped shortly after- moved to NY
with him. I went to culinary school and became a chef instructor at the
same school shortly after graduating. We moved to CT, I stopped "cheffing"
and I am currently subbing in the elementary schools in West Hartford. I
am a Cub Scout Den Leader and enjoy living the life of a quintessential

the help of a great reference from Markham Peykoff at Montvale. Favorite Camp Memory: 1. Ranch camp (which I helped start in 1995) did their trail ride overnights and packouts at McCord's Farm. 1982-1985. I then served on the Board in the 90's. I currently serve on
the Friends of Montvale Board of Directors. I am the Executive Director
of the Wesley House Community Center in Knoxville. Beverley and I are
the proud grandparents of Emma (4 yrs. old) who is looking forward to
attending camp at Montvale in a few years.Montvale has and always will
be a part of my life. It was the turning point for me in college and
began my life work of non-profits and working with youth. I look forward
in our continued effort to keep Montvale in the fore front of camping
and allowing our own children and grandchildren to have the experiences
that we had there. The closing "fire" campfire and seeing the awe in the eyes of each camper.

and when I was little I remember going there in the summers and I loved
it. I loved the people who worked there. I loved the people that went
there. I loved everything about it. There was even a cabin named after
me Cheyenne but it was abandoned nobody stayed in it. When Montvale was
shut down I was disappointed but now that its open again I'm hoping I

Favorite camp memory: The best experience I can remember at camp is the memory of a camper who came with significant physical challenges whose parents wanted him to try day camp. It was challenging and very tiring for him. However, he overcame those challenges and was coming yearly to residential camp until Montvale was closed by the YMCA. By the last year he truly seemed at home at Montvale. |

Favorite camp memory: One of my favorite camp
memories was taking the dome to the campground over by the fire tower.
Tricia Wallace was my co-counselor. We went and got the girls a whole
bunch of candy. The girls got to pick out a piece of candy and tell a
fond memory or something pertaining to the candy. The next morning we
went to the fire tower and watched the sunrise. I was told that it was
their best night ever at camp. This came from a camper who had been
there for ten years so it meant a lot.
